Assemblies inspire students to be their best

On Wednesday, Nov. 6 and Thursday, Nov. 7, all four Central Valley schools held assemblies that kept most (if not all) students glued to their seats for 45 minutes. 

Motivational Media Assemblies wove together media elements — music, movie clips, sports action, and real-life stories — presented on three portable screens that created an 11′ x 43′ video panorama in the CVA and Jarvis auditoriums. Three digital projectors and a premium sound system grabbed students in ways that a single person cannot. Because of the large size and the time needed to physically assemble, disassemble and move the equipment, the district bused Fisher students to Jarvis and Barringer Road students to CVA for programs tailored to their level.

Finding a speaker with a positive and inspirational message that resonates with every student is challenging. Central Valley has hosted wounded veterans, DWI crash victims, former addicts, authors, athletes, and others who shared their journeys of hardship, perseverance, and triumph. One speaker's style, story, or music reaches some students, but seldom all students. This week's assemblies bridged the barriers to deliver an age-appropriate reminder of good character and smart decision-making. They are not the perfect answer to the challenges facing our students, but they are one of the ways Central Valley prepares our students for their futures.
