AI in Schools: Community Feedback Results
In mid-January, we invited Central Valley parents and guardians to share their perspectives on Artificial Intelligence (AI). We appreciate the participation; here is a look at what we heard.
Feedback at a Glance
Our community has a wide range of experience with AI tools:
- 25% of participants are highly familiar and use AI frequently.
- ~50% have some familiarity with the technology.
- ~25% have little to no experience with AI.
Key Themes
Balancing Innovation with Essential Skills While many see AI as a powerful tool for personalized tutoring, creativity, and organization, there is a strong desire to keep it as a supplement to traditional teaching, not a replacement.
Preserving the Human Element The most common concerns centered on the loss of critical thinking and human interaction. Participants emphasized that human oversight is non-negotiable to ensure accuracy and prevent a decline in social-emotional development.
Support and Literacy There is a clear appetite for education—not just for students, but for families. Many parents expressed interest in district-led support to better understand AI’s ethical implications and safe usage.
Our Path Forward
AI is no longer a future concept; it is a current reality. To ensure our students remain competitive in college and the workforce, we are committed to integrating this tool responsibly.
What’s Next?
- Policy Development: We are currently synthesizing parent feedback with faculty input and expert guidelines.
- Guardrails: Our goal is to create a policy that empowers students to use AI safely while maintaining academic integrity.
- Timeline: We aim to finalize this policy over the summer for a full rollout in Fall 2026.
